Roses Recognized for Advocacy
At the August meeting of Tobacco Free Marion County, members voted unanimously to recognize the public health efforts of Bill and Patsy Rose for their involvement, advocacy, and example challenging tobacco. Among the first and most active members of TFMC, the Rose’s advocacy has included their faith based outreach, working with youth, and recording radio spots for TFMC counter marketing efforts to educate senior citizens and those who provide care for them.
Says TFMC coordinator Julie Andersen, “Bill and Patsy set the bar for community involvement in tobacco prevention and the public health. The community owes them a debt of gratitude.”
Patsy was the Director of the Bruno-Pyatt Head Start Program for many years. Bill’s tenure as Marion County Judge in the 70s oversaw the partnership with the Black Oak Arkansas rock concert that raised the funds for the very first Marion County Health Unit.
The Roses, long time residents of Everton, now reside in
Harrison.
Bill and Patsy Rose pause during recording of tobacco preventions spots in 2005. Bill and Patsy’s spots can be heard at www.tobaccofreemc.com. Click on Media, then Radio.
